AEAC provides medical care for primates, but in general does not recommend them as pets. If you are considering purchasing a primate, please schedule a no charge virtual pre-purchase consultation with one of our veterinary team members.
All primates, regardless of age, must be transported in a secure locked enclosure, and then transferred to one of our squeeze cages in a specific safe examination room in our clinic. After the transfer, the veterinary team will administer a light sedative to allow reduced-stress handling, and ensure the safety of both the primate and the veterinary team. Exceptions for transfer to the squeeze cage and sedation are primate infants, or very sick pets where sedation is not necessary. This determination will be at the veterinarian’s discretion without exceptions.
